Nas X Levi’s [Pioneer Sessions]

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

For myself and many others, Nas is a living legend. More recently, he collaborated with Levi’s who are working on a campaign called, Pioneer Sessions.

So what’s the concept behind the campaign?

The campaign is an attempt to get 12 influential artists in pop, rap,  and soul together to remake classic songs, which represents the timelessness of music. Ultimately, Levi’s wants to be portrayed as a brand who has stayed consistent and influential for years, which coincides with the concept.

Nas checks in to remake one of my fave classic Hip-Hop joints of all time, “Hey Young World”. Download Nas version of “Hey Young World”.

POWER

Friday, May 28th, 2010

If you ain’t heard about this yet you been under a rock. For real. I woke up early this morning and this is the first song I heard. I saw it on hypetrak. An amazing song, this dude never ceases to amaze. I think the more and more I hear from him the more and more on point and authentic he gets. He will surely have the record for the most improved over the course of his entire career.

What I make of the track. So I listened to it a few times and what I’m getting from this is that he’s saying is that despite what’s there you got to be willing to let go of the power to be yourself. Its all most like look at what you’ve done then immediately afterward forget about it and keep going because that’s the only way to be free of limitations as you continue to create. I actually think its a simple but complex conversation. Good Ass Job

Wednesday @superfunparty…

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Now first off I’m not really good at telling if I’m in the mood to go out until I actually get to the club, no I don’t know why its just that way. So my friend Brent just texts me and ask me if I wanna go out tonight. I’m feeling kinda indifferent about it cause I’m working on our new collection, which by the way is going to exceed everyone’s expectations. Anyway I say you know what I need to get out and talk more consistently so whatever I’ll go out.

So we’re at the door of the club and the door guy is not letting anyone in or so he says. Immediately I’m like wtf cause I’ve done events at this spot on this night and he wants to trip now. So I end up texting someone and he comes out and gets us. The place is packed I mean too damn packed and cast of Glee is in the building, its about now that I find out that I’m not in the mood to go out, drag.

Commence with the weird club conversations with some people you want to talk to and others that you dread conversation with. Anyway end of the night comes and I am ready to leave asap. We get outside and I find out that not only was Glee in the club but LXD was there too. Who is LXD you ask? take a look at the videos below then pick up on the story below…

Aight you got the picture they’re dope so what happens in the middle of the street at 2am? That’s right a tumbling competition on concrete. These dudes are snapping, I’m talking triple full twist gainers all types of shit. Pretty amazing stuff. I had no idea I’d see this in person at a place I come to every week. Life is funny like that, sometimes the show comes to you.

Besides this I got something from this night. Nobody but your friends actually care if you’re going be out or share their space. In life there are only gonna be so many times where you will bust out in laughter, only so many perfect moments, only so many tears, only so many heart aches, but when its time to leave this planet, that’s all you will have. So get out and be with the people you love and the people you don’t event know, because its gonna add up to your life story, would you wouldn’t wanna miss that? Not being with people is something you don’t wanna regret. And this is a great life whether you can see it or not, you alway shave a choice.

Janelle Monae – Archandroid

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Alright I been following this girl ever since I heard her track Letting go back in like 06. I got the chance to dance with her in Atlanta at the Bronner Brothers convention in 06 I believe. She’s an awesome person and I wish we would have gotten to talk even more. Since then I missed a show of hers at Schuba’s, a venue on the North Side of Chicago. Janelle has grown tremendously, developing an identity that is unique of any other recording artist in my opinion. To me it looks like Lady Gaga totally ripped some of her style off with the whole robot themed thing and Christina Aguilera is doing the same. Anyway check out this album its an awesome thing and I just got tickets for my mother and myself to see her Erykah Badu, and NERD next Thursday at the Chicago Theater contact ticket master if you’re interested in getting tickets. Below is her video and song featuring Big Boi for Outkast.

A glimpse into the life and mind of James Baldwin

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Its a few weeks ago and I walk into St. Alfred on a Monday afternoon. I’m over in Wicker park because I’m handling some things we need to have done for our event Thursday at Black Market Caviar. And as am walking into St. Alfred I see Johnny on the floor helping customers, and behind the counter is a friend of mine and an employee of the shop David Dawund Rasool Robinson. Dave’s wearing the shirt pictured above, Being remotely familiar with Baldwing I and asked him about the shirt. He tells me that he got it from a guy on the street in New York who designs and produces goods then sells them on the street. Now I don’t know much of Baldwin nor have I read any of his work except for a poem or two, however during that conversation it occurred to me that I wanted to know about this character of whom people speak highly. Just as I had my thought my intent was realized, I caught wind of this old interview of his that provides a good look in to his thought process and who he is as an artist/writer. Check it out if you don’t believe me and if you like it look at the other two videos they get better.
