DAY TWO In Las Vegas for Magic Tradeshow

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Good day today we got up and ran one and a half mile down the strip to Aria and another mile and a half back. It was cool seeing Vegas differently. I’ve always felt that I experience my surroundings differently when you run through you environment. Beginning to really see Vegas and its soul bit by bit. We ran past some art galleries on the way too and of course the work was amazing. There was an art gallery full of sculptures by a guy named Richard McDonald. We’re gonna have to go back and check that out.

So as far as magic is concerned we got a lot accomplished, checked out wholesale garments, sourcing and even got to see about half of Project.

Checked out Fruition again too. Turns out that they had what seemed to be a women pride cupcake motivational speaking event going down. What really went down was a community gathering to hear one of the founders of Stussy speak about her personal journey to a group of eager listeners. We didn’t hear her speak but from the energy and the comments in the room afterward we are lead to believe she inspired the room. The folks at Fruition are always cool and show mad love. Met Chris Julian, Ed from Eighty81 Val’s mom, Nick, and Herbert.

I ended up at this crazy ass party at this monstrous club called XS. Surprisingly a lot of folks I knew were there The Cool Kids, Dee & Ricky, Zoe of Fashion Geek, Quigi from BKCircus, Brandon Crawford and about 6 other Chicago folks whose names I don’t know. A lot going on but I had to leave, we got a meeting in the morning. I’m bout to lay it down cause tomorrow we have a business meeting with Crawford Kreative CEO. We’re looking good out here.

My very first time experiencing Augmented Reality…Just blew my mind!!! Thinking of ways in which this technology would be use and develop. It intrigues me and will continue to do so as it becomes more a part of my daily life…..

RICHARD MACDONALD

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

On our last day of our Vegas trip Brandon and I got to experiance the amazing work of Richard Macdonald at his new City Center gallery space. Both of us knew right away we had seen his work before, recalling having seen a smaller scale version of “Flair” at the Ralph Lauren store on Michigan Ave. If you are planning a trip to Las Vegas make it a point to take some time to visit the gallery space @ City Center…..

Google can now sell you energy

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Big news yesterday via Fast Company Google has been santioned by the FERC to sell energy. Google has always been an advocate for alternative energy sources and now they can provide you with energy from the energy that they already produce, wow. This shakes some things up for sure. We could possibly be talking about real strain being put on existing energy companies by making them compete with lower prices google is said to be able to offer. Including better ability to track energy consumption through the corporate giant because of the data they already have about you. More coming soon in the mean time read the entire Fast Company article for more info.

DAY ONE In Las Vegas/Magic Tradeshow

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

So all in all today turned out to be a great opener for what we hope will be an eventful trip out here in Nevada. We’re already in the company of some very influential people and we are grateful. After just barely making it to the gate and I look up and Josh is nowhere to be found I look back for a sec and Don C comes out of nowhere and the first thing I say to myself is “this is going to be a good trip.”

Two seconds later Josh shows up and we all just make the flight. We get to talk to Don for a bit cause we all recognize from being around town. He lets us know he’s actually headed for Hawaii, for work of course and talk about Vegas for a second. As we’re walking to our seats on the plane Don finds his seat but there is a woman sitting there. It turns out that she already switched seats with another guy so this causes a whole shift in the order of shit as everyone is trying to get to their seats to sit down. After seeing this Don politely decides to just let folks sit where they wanted to and take an uncomfortable middle seat between two guys. We thought that was good to see from someone who is as successful and influential as he.

Don is a cool guy and we won’t forget that, he showed a lot respect.

Fast foward we’re in the line for a taxi outside of the airport. I see this guy with one of the Cool Cats varsity Jackets and I compliment him on his jacket, It takes him a while to reply but he says thanks. From then I figured English isn’t his first language but I still ask him where he’s from and what he’s doing in Vegas. Turns out he is the Writer of All Gone and is in Vegas to do a book signing at Undefeated, now we’re thinking damn, “what are the chances?” In the end we get a book and an autograph from them and head to the hotel but not before we got an invite to the party.

After what seems to be a long time of checking in, registering at magic, looking at brands and eating, I head home to sleep. Juan and Josh went out on the strip and got it in doing some home made Parkour moves on the railing on the strip. So by the time they got back they were tired and we all missed the Undefeated party so we went to the Hard Rock where we met up with some friends, Rowboat Collective and Brandon Crawford from Crawford Kreative. All in all I gotta say we had a good day.

Winter Olympic training with Shaun White

Friday, February 12th, 2010

A couple weeks back I was able to catch Shaun White’s interview on 60 Minutes. What amazed me was his secret training grounds his sponsor Red Bull paid for……This is the way to go when you are pursuing another gold medal.

Nice Characters

Untitled-1

I was surfing the net and I ran into these interesting looking characters on BoingBoing.net. Now I’m a big fan or good character design every since I had young dreams of being a penciler for Marvel Comics. Come to find out that these are actually character designer for a reskinning of a game that originally came out in ‘83 called Action Elevator. Harvey James of Vice mag did the illustrations and hope Taito actually goes through with this cause it looks pretty cool even tho I own no console and probably won’t buy the game. I’m learning how to make them now.
