The Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Crossing:
A new 1.7 kilometer bridge, which, when complete, will be the largest and tallest spanning arch bridge in the world. While the bridge’s form, a simple arch, is the most basic of structural solutions for spanning great distances, this particular application of the arch is informed by the culture, topography, light, and script of the region. The structure visually connects to the earth, and then takes a bold leap. As it descends, the bridge touches down to embrace and frame an opera house. The structure rises up once again and makes a lighter arch before ending in a gesture reaching skyward. The Bridge recently won an AIA New York Design Award of Merit and the an Architectural Record/MIPIM Commendation.
The Vertical Village
The Vertical Village by Graft Lab is a multiple-use development for Dubai, which is designed to provide space for residential, hotel and entertainment facilities, while harnessing solar energy to the maximum. The complex is organized to reduce solar gain and maximize solar production, which is the most powerful renewable source of energy in the desert.

Catching up on some magazine issues on my flight I came across an article on John Mackey’s who is the founder and CEO of Whole Foods. In it Mackey’s shares a great deal of his own personal journey in growing the 8 billion dollar company and his philosophy “Conscious Capitalism”
“In theory, it underscores the importance of all of a company’s interdependent “stakeholders”: employees, customers, shareholders, suppliers, community, and the environment. When all of those constituencies’ interests are factored into the company’s decisions and aligned, his thinking goes, all — including, not” incidentally, the bottom line — will flourish”
